Volunteer abroad in hospitals and clinics in Tanzania
Groups of medical student volunteers here are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks during the summer. Medical professionals here are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks. A CV and all relevant certificates must be submitted by email before a placement can be secured.
This placement is at Arusha's biggest hospital, a facility with 450 beds and full clinical facilities. It is a 2nd level referral hospital and serves 18 other smaller district hospitals scattered all over the region. There is an internist, a surgeon, an obstetrician/gynaecologist, a public health specialist and a clinical psychologist. There are also 9 GPs and 15 assistants, 48 nursing officers, 57 nurses/midwives, 3 public health nurses and about 120 nursing assistants.
Specialists are welcome for 1-2 weeks and will work on specific cases that will have been gathered in advance. Medical students can come in groups for longer periods during the summer. Volunteers should bring their own stethoscope, a white jacket and small equipment needed for examining patients, if possible. Outreach visits of varying durations to villages around Arusha are possible after a period in Arusha.
