This project is a shelter for wildlife and a breeding ground for jaguars, located 30 km from central Curitiba. It was created in 2003 when a jaguar was found in a private farm. There are now over 1000 animals under permanent care and treatment, many of which are endangered.
The purpose is to preserve endangered wild populations for future restoration and management, to develop and improve captivity breeding techniques and to share useful information for other breeders. Those efforts are accomplished by a specialised technical team and professionals from different institutions.
Volunteers will be able to treat and take care of the animals. Endangered plant species are also preserved here. Volunteers are needed from 07:00 to 17:00 (with a 2-hour lunch break) to:
- Feed the animals
- Clean the enclosures
- Help the veterinarian
- Plant trees
- Maintain walking tracks
Volunteers in the Curitiba wildlife project are accommodated in the shelter and should not expect a lively nightlife. Alcoholic drinks are strictly prohibited. There is a small town located 3km far from the project with facilities such as a post office, a bank, a pharmacy, a market, a hospital, and more.
