Knysna

KnysnaKnysna is located in the south west of South Africa and is the pearl of the scenic Garden Route.Knysna The town is nestled between the impressive Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian ocean. At the heart of Knysna is a lagoon protected from the sea.

Knysna offers plenty to see and to do for everyone and the town is a favourite haunt of tourists, senior citizens, artists, restaurateurs, golfers and hippies. Knysna is a popular surf spot and there are nature reserves and forests, where you can encounter interesting animals, ranging Knysnafrom cheetahs and forest elephants to eagles and other birds.

With an average of 280 sunny days per year, Knysna's warm, temperate climate makes it the perfect all-year-round destination. Knysna's summers are moderately hot and winters usually mild and warm.

 

Accommodation

Volunteers at Knysna projects are accommodated at the volunteer house together withKnysna others like them from around the world. It is dorm-style accommodation, although private and family rooms are also available. There is running water, hot showers, electricity and internet access. Also available is a communal kitchen, a lounge area and outdoor decks.

Volunteers at the VTSAENV1 & VTSAENV3 projects are accommodated on location inside the game reserve / sanctuary either in farm style housing or tented safari camps. They are safe and can provide a very rustic, authentic experience of South African nature, while still providing facilities such as TV, internet and a communal area.

Volunteers at both locations are provided with 3 meals a day, and are encouraged to bring their sleeping bags.
