Volunteer abroad in Masai villages in Tanzania
VTTZVV1
Volunteers here are welcome for a minimum of 2 weeks.
There is a primary/secondary school, a hospital and a primary school, with a kindergarten under construction. The villages are located about an hour's drive from Arusha, and are reachable by the local public minibus (“daladala”).
The Masai are traditionally nomadic herders of cattle, and are struggling to integrate into mainstream society. Many children and adults in the community have little knowledge of the English language, however are eager to learn, and in some cases, their employability is increased with better English skills.
Volunteers are needed to teach basic English conversation & writing skills to children and adults. The existing English language skills of the students vary, and volunteers need to assess and subsequently group students accordingly. The volunteers can also create other after school activities for the children.
