Volunteer abroad in orphanages in Brazil
Volunteers with a sufficient level of Portuguese are welcome for a minimum of 2 weeks.
An association founded in 1996, it was created to house children removed from the custody of their parents due to abuse. The project operates a house that shelters children aged 0 to 12 years old while they await adoption. Besides accommodation, food and education, the project provides assistance from doctors, psychologists, speech therapists, dentists and all volunteers who are willing to come and contribute their time.
The project is funded by donations, contributions of products and services, a monthly bazaar and aid from the municipality. The children’s daily care is carried out by three employees and a driver. A social worker monitors the children, their biological families and keeps the courts informed through reports.
Volunteers are expected to work for 15 hours per week and usually:
- Play with the children
- Lead arts & crafts workshops
- Tutor/help with homework
- Teach basic English skills
- Babysit
Volunteers are welcome to propose different activities according to their abilities, and should not expect close supervision at the project. They are expected to be proactive and propose activities for the children.
