VTBRSC1 - Rio de Janeiro

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Portuguese are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks.

Founded in 1996, this community centre attends to at-risk children and their families, in an area lacking in health and education assistance. It is attended daily by 442 students, separated by age in the nursery, infant education and basic education. It is also a community space for vulnerable families and supports about 2300 families with food baskets, clothes and footwear. There are also human rights seminars, continuing education workshops and other courses.

Volunteers work for a minimum of 10 hours per week and are typically needed for:

  • Coaching sports
  • Telling stories
  • Helping at theatre classes
  • Leading handicraft activities
  • Teaching English
  • Helping with homework
  • Teaching chess Dance workshops

VTBRSC2 - Florianópolis

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Portuguese are welcome for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Located in the centre of Florianópolis, this non-profit entity is supported by private companies and individuals. The main project is a school support programme for children aged 8 to 16 years old that are facing difficulties in their studies. The project also aims to keep the children away from the streets by hosting activities such as drawing, painting, writing, singing songs, playing games, reading, listening to stories, preparing theatrical plays, and more.

Volunteers work for a minimum of 6 hours per day and are needed to:

  • Help the teachers to organize the daily activities
  • Organise meals
  • Helping at theatre classes
  • Re-arrange toys, books and other materials after used by the kids
  • Babysit
  • Colour and decorate facilities
